Trenton, Jan 10, 2011 -- Delta Upsilon of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. presented six student-Athlete Achievement Awards to the Jr. Midgets (12-13 yr olds) and 3 Midgets (13-14 yr olds) at a banquet held in their honor.  “This presentation, said Bro. Terrence Carter, was another of a series of educational programs that the Chapter does to engage students in elementary (8thGrade Initiative, Trenton Pop Warner, PJ Hill mentoring), secondary education and higher education.”   These six students maintain excellent grades as they continue to pursue athletics.

“The kids and their parents were more excited receiving our awards than the trophies and certificates that they received from the league,” he added.

During achievement week 2010, Delta Upsilon named Trenton Pop Warner, Community Organization of the Year for the continued effort in reaching, tutoring and mentoring   children throughout the area.

Trenton, NJ – Jan 17, 2011 -- In support of President Barack Obama’s, Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative - Delta Upsilon recognized six fathers who have been consistently active in the lives of their children who are enrolled in Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Youth College during its Martin Luther King Program, Monday,  January 17, 2011, at the Kearney Campus College.

More than 350 people participate in the event.  “We were honored to see our newly reclaimed Brother, Donald Davis, honored by the school for his 28 years’ of outstanding leadership as Director of the Youth College,” said Aula Sumbry, Chair, Delta Upsilon’s Social Committee.

In addition to a certificate from Delta Upsilon these six fathers will be honored in a later ceremony during which they will receive direct recognition from the office of the President of the United States. It should also be noted that Delta Upsilon has established and maintains and ongoing working relationship with Mercer County College’s Youth College.

Delta Upsilon’s Social Action Committee supports this worthy program as a serious strike against the Cradle to Prison Pipeline in Trenton, NJ.  According to one Trenton school administrator, more than two thirds of high school freshmen drop out, leave or face expulsion by the fourth year.

We consider it an honor to encourage Misters: Wayne Walker, Shawn Slaughter, John Jenkins, Patrick Williams, Willie Hood and Peter Hollis, involved Fathers all. We also honored Brother Dr. Eugene Gadsen as our Chapter Father. In addition to Brothers Donald Davis and Dr. Gadsen, we want to thank Brothers Jeff Sumners, Terrence Carter, our Basileus Dr. Garry Keel and Committee Chair Aula Maarufu Sumbry.
